SOUS CHEF

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Managing Chef, prepare food in a safe, clean, and sanitized kitchen. Sweep and mop floors, collect and dispose of trash, re-stock pantries as needed, wash walls, clean and sanitize as necessary. Follow checklist for opening or closing the kitchen. Check out cooks to make sure their closing duties have been completed. They are also responsible for coordinating cooks, volunteers, and participants when the managing chef or Food Service Manager is not available. They will assist in the daily functions of the kitchen including meal planning, daily paperwork. They would assume some of the duties of the managing chef if the chef is absent. Assist the chef in special events as needed.

  • Ability to work independently and complete assigned duties with minimum supervision.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment that requires sensitivity and professionalism.
  • Availability to work evening and weekends as requested by management and based on the operational needs of the program.
  • Ability to work harmoniously and cooperatively as a team player.
  • Ability to arrive to work reliably and on time,
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions and/or directions.

Required Qualifications

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The duties of this job include cutting, mixing, preparing, stocking, sweeping, mopping, wiping, picking up trash, climbing ladders, bending, stooping, crawling, and carrying kitchen supplies weighing up to 50lbs. for 20 30 feet. While performing the essential functions of the job the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, walk, stoop, talk, smell, view persons in need, hear, reach above and below shoulders; use hand and finger dexterity for the preparation of food, and making and receiving radio calls.

Work Environment

The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using alcohol and drugs, and who may not be attentive to basic personal hygiene, health, and safety practices. The employee may experience several unpleasant sensory demands associated with the clients use of alcohol and drugs, and lack of personal hygiene. The employee must be ready to respond quickly and effectively to many types of situations, including crisis situations and potentially hostile situations. The noise level in the work environment has a wide range depending upon the individuals using the restroom and the external environment. Sometimes work may become stressful when working under pressure.
